| It was a nice six week break from the Wyoming enduro to the Michigan enduro. I’ve been spending my summer mostly out on the lake having some fun. I started to ride and train pretty hard a few weeks leading up to the event so I felt like I was more than ready to go and race again. I arrived after lunch at the track on Saturday. I was going to ride my bike some and make sure it was all good and ready to go, so I went down the road was an OHV park. From what I saw on the trails, the race was going to be awesome. I headed back to room and got some good rest for Sunday. |
| I made it to the track around 8 am and prepped my goggles and made sure everything was ready to go. The first test was the “A” only. I took off and right away I could tell it was going to be tough. I got into the woods and it was real swampy and a lot of slippery roots that were hard to see. I felt like you could only ride so fast without making a mistake. I was really cautious but rode smooth and made no mistakes. I ended up winning the section with a 12 second gap over second. |
| The second and third test was a little more faster pace than the first one. I really liked these ones and they had nice flow to it. I was feeling really good and hitting all my corners at good speed and getting through the tight trees. I won both these test and opened my lead to about 50 seconds going into the fourth test. |
| The fourth test was a 9 mile test with some of the tightest trees I’ve ever ridden in. It felt like the test was 20 miles long because it was so tight. I started the test off pretty well and really felt fast in the tight stuff. I came out of a corner and clipped my handle bar on a tree and I pretty much ping pong ball off about four trees than crashed. I picked my bike up and it took a while for me to get it fired up. Bobbitt ended up winning the test by a good margin. I felt even if I didn’t crash that I couldn’t of had a time as good as him. He was hauling in this section. My lead went from 50 seconds to about 8 with two sections to go. |
| The fifth test was by far the best one of the day. It was 6 miles of awesome trail and nice sand berms in every corner. I really tried to pick up my pace and stretch my lead out. I rode really well in this test and I felt fast in it. I was able to bounce back and win this test by 14 seconds. |
| The last test was pretty fun and had some really tight sections in it. I knew I had to get a good time in it to win the race. I took off and made a little mistake right at the start but nothing major. I rode as hard as I could and really charged the last test. It was a seven mile test and at the end I was able to win the test by 14 seconds. |
| I want to thank the club for putting on an awesome event. I really enjoyed my time in Michigan. I was happy with my end result and I was able to open up my points lead a little bit more. There are two rounds left to go and the next one is a month away up in Maine. I’m just going to keep working hard and hopefully have a good strong finish at the next race. I also want to thank my dad and Dale for all their hard work and help this weekend and all the Michigan fans cheering me on. I was fortunate to meet a bunch of nice people up there. |
